I’m assuming that you are just playing around, or you are trying to design
your own tattoo and see how it looks on your body. If you want to make it
permanent – don’t without the input of an adequate tattoo artist. If you
haven’t figured this one out, then you also haven’t figured out all the
other things that make the difference between an obviously shitty tattoo
and a not-so-obviously shitty tattoo.
The carbon paper is the so-called blue “pencil” carbon paper (with a water
soluble dye), not the more common smudge-resistant black “pen” or “typing”
carbon paper.
The type of paper required is one with a moisture-resistant glazed/coated
finish. Most good quality tracing paper and some “bond” papers may be
suitable.
Draw/trace the design on the paper then trace over it with the carbon paper
upside down underneath it, to create a reverse image in blue carbon on the
opposite side of the paper.
Apply a thin layer of Mennen or other “speed stick” type deodorant to the
skin and press the carbon-tracing side of the paper firmly against the
skin. Some of the dye will dissolve and stain the skin, the excess dye and
the residual deodorant can be cleaned off with soap and water. “Speed
stick” is commonly used because it’s an easy/convienient to apply gel (and
contains some alcohol which helps dissolve the dye), but anything that
leaves a very thin uniform layer of moisture on the skin will probably
work.
